Phase III of the Grand Egyptian Museum
On January 10th of 2012, BESIX signed a joint venture with Orascom to build the new iconic building to house the state Egyptian artefacts as replacement of the actual Cairo Museum.
The design was envisioned by Heneghan Peng Architects (Ireland).
The project, commissioned by the Ministry of Antiquities (supreme council of Antiquities) will be located over the Pyramids’ plateau of the Giza pyramids, constructing a dialectic relationship between past and present.
Works will start February 1st 2012 and will be completed in July 2015. The project will include exhibition galleries, a conservation center, a conference center as well as landscaping and commercial retail and restaurants. The duration is 40 months while the contract value is of US$ 810,000,000 (+/- EUR 635 million).
