"I discovered a job I didn't even know existed"

Meet Morgan, who found her place in the Planning & Methods team thanks to the BESIX Young Professional Days. Her story shows how the BYPD can help you take your first steps in the construction sector with confidence.

From studies to working life: which path do you choose?

Last year, Morgan graduated as a civil engineer from Ghent University. The transition from student life to the world of work can feel daunting, but the BESIX Young Professional Days* made this step much easier.

“You leave the classroom and, honestly, you still know very little. Working life suddenly feels huge. I had absolutely no idea which direction I wanted to take. The BYPD opened my eyes. For the first time, I had a sense of what might suit me.”

*The BESIX Young Professional Days are the opportunity for young graduates to discover BESIX and launch their career at the company. Participants attend various presentations and meet our recruiters and managers of the various departments.

The BYPD: one day of insights and new encounters

In just one day, you get to know the company and take part in speed interviews with different departments. “Each department had time to explain what they do. I found it incredibly interesting. After a full day of listening and talking, I had a much clearer picture of what truly matched my interests.”

She was also drawn to the diversity and complexity of BESIX projects. That wide range of challenges reassured her that she would find a role that genuinely suited her strengths and ambitions.

That day also led to a discovery that shaped her career:

I didn’t even know Planning & Methods existed. I heard about it for the first time during the BYPD. And now I’m here, and still very happy with my choice.
Morgan Van Ruyskensvelde
Junior Engineer at Planning & MethodsBESIX

What does she do at BESIX today?

Today, Morgan works as a junior engineer in Planning & Methods, part of the Engineering department. She helps define how projects will be delivered, works on phasing and site layout plans, and collaborates closely with planners and the Tendering team.

In a short time, she has already contributed to several projects. “It’s incredible how much you learn so quickly. At first, I often wondered how I was supposed to know all this. But step by step, you grow and become more independent.”

Team spirit and opportunities

Team spirit plays a major role in her positive experience at BESIX. “Everyone is friendly and supportive. They explain things with real passion. From day one, you’re part of the team, while still getting plenty of responsibility.”

What she's most grateful for? The opportunities I’m given, and the atmosphere. It can be busy, but there is always someone willing to help. That makes working here really enjoyable.

Her advice for final year students and young graduates

Morgan is clear: “The BYPD is incredibly valuable and helps you discover where your interests lie. Don’t let the idea of a full day put you off. Without that day, I would never have known this job existed – and look where I am now.”

Would you like to launch your career at one of Belgium’s leading construction companies, just like Morgan? Make sure to register for the final BESIX Young Professional Day on 21 April 2026.
