Project Fujairah, United Arab Emirates

VLCC Jetty Fujairah

In 2016, the UAE inaugurated in Fujairah a jetty for very large crude carriers. In a challenging marine environment, Six Construct and its partner completed the job in 18 months. A great story of collaboration between the design and construction teams.

Crude oil giants

130 km from the Strait of Hormuz, Fujairah is the only multi-purpose port on the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates. Today it hosts very large crude carriers (VLCC) at a special jetty built by Six Construct and its partner. The project included the civil engineering, equipping the marine structures, electromechanical work and connecting the site to the port's Matrix Manifold 2.

Deep water

Working in a maritime environment is a challenge in itself, especially when the piles have to be sunk down 65 m in 26 m of water. Six Construct focused on selecting the appropriate techniques, combining quality, safety and meeting tight deadlines. To do this, they could rely on BESIX Group’s in-house Design department.

The synergy between the design and execution teams made it possible to align the construction methods both with the site and the client's requirements.

Technological flagship

Nothing stops a construction team supported by a Design department deeply involved in the execution stage. Together they developed effective solutions. For instance, the decision to invest in a thorough battery of tests led to a rethink of the initial solution for the foundations, with driven piles instead of drilled ones. Driving was done with a new addition to the Group's fleet of sophisticated machinery: the "RIMA" high tech self-elevating platform, fitted with a brand new driving guide.
